Applications of PM5 Gen2 in Titanium Thickness Measurement

Measurement Analysis
However the safety of parts affects the overall safety of use. The key parts are complex and if they are not processed properly, the use of the entire product will be affected. We have received product samples from some aviation, aerospace and defense technology research and development companies, and the thickness is generally between 0.17-0.3mm and this sample is semicircular, which means the sample is very thin and has small area for probe to be well coupled with the workpiece.
According to the thickness range, we select the PM5 Gen2 High-precision Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge, it is a powerful and easy-to-operate non destructive testing equipment. PM5 Gen2 can realize most of difficult thickness measurement using single-element high-frequency narrow pulse probes. In this case, we used D15A probe and D20A probe to measure the thin titanium workpiece.
Measurement Results
The test results of using PM5 Gen2 standard probe 15M narrow pulse compound wafer probe are as follows:
Under the I-ME Measurement Modes, PM5 Gen2 captured many times of the bottom echoes of titanium workpiece.And this thickness testing equipment showed the great accuracy and high resolution, which can up to 0.001mm.
In order to measure smaller contact surfaces more stably, a 20M high-frequency probe and probe holder were selected. The following figure shows the test results using a 20M high-frequency small-diameter probe and holder.
About Probe Holder
It's a kind of ultrasonic accessories that developed independently by YUSHI. The purpose of probe holder is help to achieve well coupling and stable thickness measurement when the workpiece have irregular shapes.
Comparing the two probes, we can see that the measurement effect of the 20M small probe and holder is also very good, with high sensitivity and good resolution. It can clearly distinguish multiple bottom echoes, and the measurement results are accurate and reliable.
