Application of Probe Holder in Ultrasonic Measurement of Curved Surface Workpiece

When we use ultrasonic thickness gauges to measure material thickness, we often encounter small diameter pipes, materials including metal, glass, plastic, etc., and samples with curvature such as rounded corners, the typical representative of which is stamping parts. Among the steel materials in the world, 60-70% are plates, most of which are stamped into finished products. To correctly select a probe, you need to consider many factors, including the thickness, material and geometry of the workpiece being measured.

Due to the typical shape and small thickness of stamping parts, we usually use a small diameter delay line probe to complete the measurement. Generally, the probe should be selected according to the specific part shape. The contact surfaces we most often recommend are Φ2, Φ3 and Φ6 probes. However, for typical small diameter pipes or arc surfaces with small R angles, in order to effectively couple the sound energy to the small diameter workpiece being measured, we must focus the sound beam to a very small point.

Because of curve surface, the measuring surface of the workpiece is very small, and the pointed and narrow end of the delay tip makes it difficult to keep the probe perpendicular to the measuring surface of, which will cause the signal amplitude to decrease or even completely lost, this is very inconvenient during the measurement process, the user needs to constantly move the probe to find the best measuring angle. The probe holder with spring load inside, and V-shaped groove at the front end, which is convenient for keeping the probe in a stable and vertical state during the inspection process.
